Sr. Systems Engineer, Fidelity Investments, Merrimack, NH Nov 04 – June 10
Full time position providing file, print, and FAX-MFD (RightFax) server support to internal users.
* Developed print server disaster recovery plan to reduce downtime in the event of a server failure to less than 1 hour.
* Converted 5500+ printing queues from HP device specific drivers to HP Universal Print Driver, while removing obsolete queues, standardizing queue configurations, and converting all capable printers to duplex operation. Projected annual paper cost savings in excess of $150,000, with additional savings due to reduced support complexities. Completed using internally developed tools.
* Introduced clustered printing servers to the Fidelity environment, reducing DR potential, enhanced stability, and ease of administration. Project consolidated SPOF print servers to a robust clustered or NLB environment.
* Involved in a variety of system standardization projects, including file space capacity, and printer configurations.
* Acted as primary technical contact with HP & Xerox for technical issue escalation.
* Provided Print SME consulting to other internal groups both domestic and international.
* Collaborated on Windows share to EMC share migrations of 85+ TB of data, leading to decommissioning of more than 80 servers. Project included shifting of FTP environment from individual Windows File Servers to a new FTP server farm.

Systems Administrator, AllEnergy Gas & Electric Marketing, Waltham, MA July 02 – Oct 03
Contract position providing Network & Systems management for a Windows NT / 2000 and Cisco based Network of 70 users, consisting of 4 locations in 3 states. Supported products also included Panasonic fax machines, Xerox copiers, HP printers, and a Lucent Definity telephone system.
* 100% elimination of Internet outages, critical due to the time sensitive nature of natural gas contract executions via web based systems. Accomplished via upgrade of network infrastructure to provide automatic fail over and load sharing for both inbound and outbound Internet connections, focusing on physical diversity of network paths by implementing a wireless connection to compliment the copper based T1 connection.
* Coordinated switchover of WAN network links to new provider, following the C&W frame relay network divestiture.
* Installed a Cisco PIX 515 firewall & a Cisco 3005 VPN concentrator, allowing for greater security, and enhanced connectivity to home users and remote offices served via stand-alone Internet connections.
* Introduced network management software (Solar Winds) to study server, and network utilization, and provide alerting in the event of outage, poor performance, or over utilization.
* Recommended, configured, and deployed the use of XP Remote Desktop connections (Terminal Services) in order to more efficiently allow use of large, intensive applications by remote and home offices, and better utilize available network bandwidth.
* Managed and implemented physical move of corporate data systems and network infrastructure to new location following downsizing of the company. Solely responsible for coordinating with ISP for move and reconfiguration of network systems.
