Project Engineer, January 2010 – Present
• Executed the two controlling jobs for the #5 Recovery Boiler 2011 Outage: replaced a section of the west and north walls of the boiler and upgraded the smelt spouts and dissolving tank to improve reliability and safety. Total Outage budget approved for $2.65 MM, completed for $2.2 MM. Managed engineering, procurement, contract awarding, and construction. Led the outage to be completed safely, to quality standards, and on schedule. New equipment is running with 100% uptime and enhanced safety for mill employees.
• Managed a $2.3 MM project to improve drainage in the Utility area of the mill to improve safety and reduce risk of environmental release. Worked with consultants, construction manager, contractors, and operations to safely and efficiently complete the work. Planned phased approach for construction and start-up. Led trouble-shooting of equipment after start-up. Project completed on time and under budget.
• Executed a project to demolish out-of-service assets (3 and 4 Set Evaporators, Old Demineralizers) to improve mill safety. Labor and material cost was over $1 MM, but this was offset by salvage value of scrap material for $700,000. Led team of operations, maintenance, and contractors to isolate equipment from all energy sources. Oversaw demolition and conducted many safety audits. Project was completed safely and on schedule.
• Managed a project to engineer and install a new storage and delivery system for Sodium Bisulfite. Project estimated to save $170,000 each year in chemical costs. Collaborated with operators, maintenance, and operations to develop scope and ensure long-term safety. Oversaw development, approval, engineering, procurement, and construction. Project was approved for $460,000 and successfully completed on schedule for $450,000.
• Managed a project to install a new Combination Doctor on a Brownstock Washer to reduce downtime and lost production worth $250,000. Oversaw engineering, procurement, and construction. Continuously communicated with operations and maintenance to facilitate cons...
