• Managed the architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, process engineering disciplines and construction project management of 250,000 sf 24/7 manufacturing and packaging facility.
• Led, directed and managed engineering department consisting of mechanical engineer, process engineer, construction manager and staff, engineering drafter as well as master electrician and licensed boiler operator and staff.
• Developed detailed scope of work, project schedule, operating and capital budgets as well as schematic, design development and construction documents.
• Wrote and implemented Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) procedures. Coordinated regulation, validation, compliance, safety and EHS including FDA, cGMP and OSHA.
• Projects included:
➢ Consolidation and Expansion: Managed the consolidation of one existing facility and expanded the operation in a new location. Redesigned the operational process while designing the new facility including the granulation, blending, compression, coating, sorting, packaging, technical services, QA/QC, R&D and administrative departments. Developed long-range facility master plan.
➢ Plant within a Plant: Managed the design and construction of a 13,000 sf interior renovation project to create a “plant within a plant” including granulation, blending, weighing, compression, sorting, QC lab and gowning. Incorporated existing operations and constructed new operations while maintaining existing production. Created new process, personnel, material and waste flow patterns.
➢ Laboratory Designs: Designed and managed the construction specifications of a 3,000 sf Research & Development Lab; 2,500 sf VMS Quality Control Lab; 1,000 sf API/OTC Lab; and 600 sf Raw Material Lab. Designed the floor plan, laid out the scientific equipment and lab furnishings. Coordinated the mechanical and electrical design.
➢ Office Renovations: Designed the renovations, specified the FFE and oversaw construction to the offices for the executive, finance, human resources, sales, operations, quality, engineering and information technology departments.
➢ Warehouse Expansion: Conducted a site search, renovated and fitted-out 90,000 sf leased warehouse for in-coming raw material, out-going finished goods and in-house product testing.
➢ Facility Acquisition Feasibility Study, Shanghai, China: Managed the engineering portion of a feasibility study to acquire a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Shanghai, China. Toured the facilities and equipment manufactures in China. Developed the facility and equipment requirements, timeline and capital budget. Prepared schematic design renovations.
➢ Mechanical Systems: Oversaw the design, purchase, installation and maintenance of two 8.37 MMbtu gas fired boilers; four chillers totaling 800 tons, a 1,500 kVA transformer; 1,640 gal bulk argon tank; 250 KW diesel emergency generator. Implemented a critical safety monitoring and alerting system.
➢ Controlled Environment Systems: Oversaw the design, purchase and installation of a 500 sf cold storage and a 325 sf dry storage room. Installed a series of stability chambers. Implemented a temperature, humidity and positive pressure monitoring and alerting system throughout the facility.
➢ Food Development Lab: Worked with a real estate company to investigate various lease facilities to fit-out a food development lab. Designed several layouts and worked with the building owner to negotiate lease terms. The project has not been implemented.
➢ CCTV: Coordinated with Manufacturing, Safety and IT to implement a two-part CCTV program with part one for general interior and exterior facility security and part two to provide manufacturing with a training tool to improved operations.

Project Architect, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), 1994 – 1996

• Designed and documented in-house projects throughout the Authority. Coordinated the architectural, civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering disciplines. Developed detailed scope of work, project schedule and budget.
• Projects included:
➢ Daylesford, Elkins Park, Oreland and Radnor Railroad Stations, PA: $250,000 to $1,000,000 renovations to the platforms and canopies to meet ADA and historic preservation requirements.
➢ Walnut Locust Subway Station, Philadelphia, PA: $400,000 renovation to one of the most used stations on the system. Developed the design to implement a new approach to signage, fare collection and customer service.
➢ Wayne Junction Railroad Car Maintenance Shop, Philadelphia, PA: Designed the relocation of the maintenance operations from one location to this 1931 facility.
