Malmstrom Fire Department, 21 73rd Street South, Malmstrom AFB, MT 59402
Assigned as the 1st run engine crew chief/captain. Supervise firefighters for structural firefighting, rescue operations, and emergency medical service calls. Provide leadership and guidance to members during routine duties and emergencies. Member of the safety committee and an emergency services vehicle trainer/certifier. Primary CPR and first aid instructor for the department and the medical logistics manager. Complete training and emergency response reports. Help develop and review policy guidelines. Continually assist and help prepare for local & federal compliance inspections. Perform hazardous materials, confined space rescue, and basic life support duties. Inspect and use detection equipment to detect hazards and confined spaces. Significantly comply and enforce workplace safety practices to include SDS, PPE, respiratory protection, hearing protection etc. Comply with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures; and perform work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment to include lockout tag out procedures. Served as a voting member on the Board of Medical Examiners, which deals with a large variety of safety and healthcare professional licensing and regulation. This board mission is to protect the health, safety and well being of Montana citizens through the licensing of competent health professionals and by the regulation of the related practices to promote the delivery of quality health care.
Responsible for reviewing all initial EMT and paramedic applications that exhibit high-risk behavior or a history of criminal background, negligent driver’s history, or substance abuse. Asked to determine whether the applicant needs to meet with the full board and/or also be referred to the Montana Professional Assistance Program for review and possible monitoring. Serve as a member of the Adjudication Panel, which reviews the record to determine appropriate sanctions and the final outcome of an investigated complaint. Hand selected as a member of the hiring committee for newly hired Montana Medical Director. Assigned to a dual role EMT/Nurse task force to help determine better emergency medical response options for rural ambulance companies. Member of the medical director subcommittee, which works with local medical directors and deals with and approves EMS practice protocols. Helps develop policy regarding emergency medical services response procedures.
