Resume

Summary

I am a Systems Engineer with eighteen years experience in all phases of weapon system design, integration and test. I excel at team leadership and have led teams through numerous system level reviews. I am passionate about Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and an advocate for the application of its principles to the System Engineering Life Cycle. I am a mentor to those new to systems engineering, and a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Anti-Tamper System Design. I am also a MATLAB Instructor with over 15 years teaching experience, and have advanced training in Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) database administration. My skills include Model Based System Engineering using Systems Modeling Language (SysML) in Rhapsody, trade studies, functional analysis, performance analysis and simulation, and Microsoft Office tools. I have a strong background in Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC), having specialized in Controls Engineering in my masters program and spent the first half of my career working on GNC related algorithms. I am a US citizen and hold an active DoD Top Secret clearance with numerous SAP/SAR (SSBI) clearances attached.

Work Experience

Senior Systems Engineer II, Raytheon Missile Systems, Tucson, AZ
January 1996-Present

• Systems Engineering Team Lead for a multi-processor Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) targeted for Embedded Systems. Identified architecture innovations saving over $2M. Successfully led team through System Requirements Review (SRR), System Functional Review (SFR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), and Critical Design Review (CDR). Developed ASIC functional performance requirements and specifications in DOORS. Developed ASIC architecture using SysML in Rhapsody. Assessed design risks and led development of Verification and Validation Plans based on schedule and use case prioritization so as to minimize risks for integration and production. Managed subcontractors supplying design elements and verification services. Wrote Supplier Statements of Work (SSOW), drafted Requests for Proposal (RFP), and participated in contract negotiations. Tracked and reported risks and opportunities.
• Processor Trade Study Lead. Led processor trade study to assess replacement alternatives for obsolete processors. Developed trade study analysis tools used by other trade study leads. Responsibilities included Control Account Manager (CAM), and Earned Value Management System (EVMS) reporting (CPI/SPI), and Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) task planning and tracking.
• Technical Area Team Lead. Successfully Led team through PDR. Guided the development of Software Requirements Specifications (SRS) and related Interface Requirement Specifications (IRS). Coordinated with System Architect on the development of use cases, activity diagrams, sequence diagrams, and internal block diagrams using SysML in Rhapsody. Responsible for functional analyses supporting the traceable development of system requirements. Mentored and coached team in use of DOORS requirements management tools.
• Algorithm Development Lead for a three-axis MEMS accelerometer solution for shock and impact detection within power and size constraints. Developed MATLAB tools for modeling and simulation of accelerometer performance and assessment of shock and impact detection algorithms. Qualified model performance based on testing of prototype in environmental testing facility.
• Algorithm Requirements Lead. Developed Functional Analysis and Algorithm Performance Specification documents in a DOORS database. Led affordability and cost reduction effort to identify excess margin.
• Functional Analysis SME. Developed MATLAB tools for EO/IR modeling of near-field debris objects, analyzed impact to requirements and developed mitigations. Developed MATLAB models for analysis of residual thrust, risk of impact from spent lower stage, and developed guidance mitigations to prevent impact.
• Frame Summing Responsible Engineering Authority (REA). Responsible for algorithm modeling and simulation in MATLAB and C. Conducted trade studies on the relative merit, capabilities and limitations of candidate algorithms. Developed MATLAB based parallel processing tools for rapid Monte Carlo analysis turnaround using a Beowulf cluster of 128 dual core Linux machines.
• End-to-End Simulation Development Team Lead. Led team integrating existing MATLAB stand-alone tools into a single end-to-end tool. Supervised system discrimination trade studies across multiple sensor platforms.
• Multiple Object Tracking Algorithm REA. Developed, produced and successfully flight tested algorithms in embedded flight code to mitigate hardware design issues via software upgrade. Developed MATLAB tools for the rapid processing of test flight telemetry for evaluation of algorithm performance.
• Tools Architect. Designed and developed end-to-e...
